Sander Koomen

At the end of October our athlete Sander cycled 1.9 km with the help of FES on the road outside. We are proud of the progress that our athlete is making. Sander is currently working on a two-week power training to improve muscle strength in his legs, hopefully it will also improve the cycling speed. In addition to this training, Sander is also experimenting with different crank lengths to see what works best for him.

Reade

Soon we will go to Reade to try out the influence of the (extra) stimulation of the m.Rectus Femoris in one of our athletes through an extra channel, but also to determine the optimal stimulation frequency. This is to determine a protocol that fits in as well as possible with the task, FES-cycling, that must be performed during the Cybathlon. Hopefully this brings us a step closer to setting the fastest possible time!

Story after Lyon

Some of us had the great opportunity to go to the CyberBike in Lyon again this year. This is a two-day event where various interested parties come together and the latest technologies regarding Functional Electrostimulation (FES) are discussed. A lot of knowledge was exchanged between the present teams. On the first day a conference was organized. Professors from all over the world were present. Interesting presentations have given rise to new ideas, such as using Read more…

ICEE

At the start of this season we were invited to PULSE Racing at the international ICEE congress, co-organized by prof.dr. Hein Daanen! The ICEE congress, abbreviated for the International Conference on Environmental Ergonomics, is a congress covering a wide range of themes in and around extreme environmental physiology and medicine.  International scientists were present here, making the public interesting for PULSE Racing to talk to. It is an honor that we we were invited.

READE collaboration

From now on we are also visible in Reade. To make us more visible in the READE rehabilitation center, we have developed a new banner. In addition to the banner, you can see us on an information folder in the waiting room. By showing us in Reade, we hope to get in touch with more interested people in our project to spread the benefits of electrostimulation. Hopefully more rehabilitation centers will follow!

Workshop for PR for the Cybathlon 2020

At TU Delft we have been invited to attend a workshop to receive PR advice on the most important race. It soon became clear that everything is in place with good planning and communication within the team. It is important to start publishing long before the race about preparations that are being made, such as the development and testing of the vehicle. This point was also discussed interactively. How many days do you start with Read more…

Bike design progress made

PULSE Racing is aiming to participate with a brand new bike at the Cybathlon in 2020. The Engineering Department of PULSE Racing has been around for a few months now and a good start has been made with developing this bike. The rough design is well underway as several aspects have been researched and optimized. The best framework design for the bike has been chosen as well as the optimal wheels for this specific race. EMG

A start has been made with electromyography, EMG for short. By means of EMG it is possible to find out more about muscle activation. By testing this on ourselves, we can gain a better insight into muscle activation while cycling on the Berkelbike. We then incorporated these insights into the stimulation patterns for our athletes, in order to create an optimal pedaling cycle.     Do you also want to focus on optimizing electrostimulation and Read more…
